MaHoMe Research Forum: Experimental aesthetic methodologies for reimagining migrant homemaking, at Hornbergssalen, Kulturen in Lund, Sweden

The MaHoMe research project showcased its preliminary aesthetic methodological contributions to the study of migrant homemaking and politics of integration at this open seminar where we were joined by two invited respondents: Erin Cory, Malmö University, and Karen Waltorp, Copenhagen University. All participants were invited to discuss and explore the (im)potency of aesthetic interventions in social science as tools for critique, engagement, and reimagining.

The morning comprised short papers on:

  • What do we mean by aesthetic methodologies? – a cross-disciplinary perspective by Fran Lloyd

  • Narrative policy analysis – political configurations of the migrant-home nexus retold by Marta Padovan-Özdemir

  • Collective autoethnographic montages of the politics of migrant homemaking by Philip Dodds and Marta Padovan-Özdemir

  • Magic ethnography of home-making by Eleonora Narvselius

  • Ethnographic diffractions – exploring migrant homemaking through artworks and Google Earth walks by Kristina Grünenberg

Erin Cory and Karen Waltorp’s responses to the papers were insightful, generous and much appreciated.
